Choosing an SEO company in Saudi Arabia without getting burned

SEO is one of the hardest services to judge before buying. You cannot see the product, results take months, and most clients have no tools to assess the quality of the work. That environment is a perfect market for anyone selling an illusion.

What follows is not an advert for us. It is what we tell any business owner who asks — even if they end up hiring someone else.

Seven warning signs

1. "We guarantee first place"

The clearest sign of all. Nobody — not even Google's own staff — can guarantee a specific position. Rankings shift with competition, location, the user's history and algorithm updates. Whoever guarantees you first place either does not understand how search works, or understands perfectly and is betting that you do not.

2. "We have a special relationship with Google"

There is none. No partner programme grants priority in organic results. Google Partner badges apply to paid advertising only and have nothing to do with free rankings. Anyone conflating the two is doing it deliberately.

3. Implausibly fast results

"First page in two weeks" on a competitive term means one of three things: a term nobody searches, a paid ad presented to you as SEO, or techniques that will be penalised later. Real SEO is measured in months, not weeks.

4. Buying links in bulk

"A thousand backlinks for X" is tempting and harmful. Bought links come from networks Google already knows, and leave a detectable pattern. Worse, recovering from a link penalty is far harder and longer than building slowly.

Ask: where does each link come from, and why does your site deserve to be cited there? If the answer does not convince you as a human reader, it will not convince Google.

5. Buying reviews

In local SEO specifically, an offer to "get you reviews" means fake accounts. It explicitly violates Google's policies and can lead to all reviews being deleted or your profile suspended entirely — losing the most important local asset you own.

6. Reports with no conversion figures

A report showing only impressions and clicks hides the only question that matters: how many customers reached you? Require from day one that reports include calls, form submissions, WhatsApp requests and direction requests. If tracking is not set up, nobody knows anything — not you and not them.

7. They do not ask for Search Console access

An SEO company that does not request Google Search Console access is not doing SEO. It is the official tool showing what Google actually sees on your site: indexing errors, exclusion reasons, the terms you appear for. Working without it is guesswork.

And crucially: make sure the account is in your name and you grant them access — not the reverse.

What the contract must contain

  • Target keywords by name, with search volume and difficulty — not "general search engine optimisation".
  • Which pages will be worked on, and who writes the content: them or you.
  • You own everything: accounts, content, links. When the contract ends, the work stays with you.
  • A monthly report with specific agreed metrics, in writing.
  • An explicit policy on links and reviews: ask for a clause prohibiting purchase. If they refuse to write it, they are buying.
  • A realistic evaluation period: three to six months before judging. Anyone accepting a one-month review knows they will be gone before you find out.

Five questions that reveal the level in ten minutes

  1. "What is the biggest technical problem on my site right now?" — anyone who did not open your site before the meeting will answer in generalities.
  2. "How many of my pages are indexed, how many excluded, and why?" — this separates people who read Search Console from people who sell packages.
  3. "Which terms do I rank for today?" — if they do not know, they did not research.
  4. "When would you advise me not to buy SEO?" — an honest answer exists. Anyone who says "everyone needs it" is selling, not advising.
  5. "Show me a real client report — with numbers, not a screenshot of a first place."

When you do not need an SEO company at all

If your site is slow, broken on mobile, or has no real content, SEO will be built on a cracked foundation. Fix the foundation first. And if your business depends entirely on nearby customers, local SEO and a Google Maps profile may serve you at a fraction of the cost of a full SEO programme.

Whoever tells you this before selling to you is more deserving of trust than whoever sells you everything.

In short

Choosing an SEO company is not a price comparison but a clarity comparison. The firm that explains what it cannot do, puts keywords, limits and reporting in writing, and asks for official tool access in your name — that is the one actually working. And any promise of a guaranteed position is the single signal that should end the meeting.
